FirstBet Sportsbook Review 2026: Ratings, Bonuses & Verdict
Is FirstBet legit in South Africa? Yes, FirstBet is a licensed South African bookmaker. The operator is Banzostar (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2016/131538/07, which appears on the National Gambling Board’s Verified Operators portal as a Bookmaker under licence 10185107-014, and the site footer names a Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board licence with the same base number 10185107, first issued in June 2017. FirstBet’s terms list the sportsbook, horse racing and Lucky Numbers under that Western Cape licence. Two details are untidy: the portal lists the province as Eastern Cape and does not show the second licence named in the footer, ECBM 058, and live chat passed our licensing question to its compliance team without an answer. The sportsbook sits on the firmer licence, and the open points concern mainly the casino, which we cover in our casino review.
FirstBet Sportsbook is the sports side of a South African bookmaker operated by Banzostar (Pty) Ltd, which says it has traded since 2016 and runs 14 or more branches. The public site lists 1,308 soccer events alongside rugby, tennis, cricket, basketball, ice hockey, MMA and boxing, with an In Play tab, price boosts, outrights, horse racing and Lucky Numbers. In our 10-point review it scored best at 7.5 in three categories: Licensing, because the sportsbook sits on the Western Cape licence the portal confirms, Deposits, because the cashier has 16 tiles, and Product Quality. Its weakest areas are Brand Trust & Reputation, Mobile and Responsible Gambling Tools at 6.0, because there is almost no independent feedback, the Android app is installed from a download link rather than Google Play and we saw no loss limits, session limits or reality checks. The welcome offer is a 100% match up to R10,000 paid as one bonus bet, and the weekly cashback and the Multi Bet Bonus of up to 150% are the stronger promotions. We opened an account to check the settings, cashier and terms, browsed the sportsbook and tested live chat, but have not deposited, bet or tested a payout, so several categories are held back by our evidence ceiling.
FirstBet Sportsbook Review: Strengths & Good to Know

- Deposit limits for 1 day, 7 days, 30 days or a calendar month, temporary deactivation and self exclusion
- Live chat answered quickly with a human agent on a Saturday evening, and gave a clear list of accepted documents
Good to Know
- The portal lists the licence province as Eastern Cape and does not show the footer’s second licence, ECBM 058, and live chat did not confirm the licences
- Hellopeter shows only 3 reviews and no TrustIndex, and the 1 star review complains of document requests, bonus terms and a rejected withdrawal
- The welcome offer is one bonus bet, pays profit only, caps winnings at the lower of 5 times the bonus and R30,000, and excludes price boosts
- The welcome offer must be claimed through support after the first deposit is wagered 5 times at odds of 1.9 or higher, and is allocated within 48 hours
- FirstBet may amend, cancel, reclaim or refuse any bonus, and the cashback is not paid to players who are R20,000 or more in profit over 30 days
- Withdrawal minimums run from R10 to R250 by method, and an unwagered deposit can suspend a withdrawal
- We saw no loss limits, session limits or reality checks, and the terms, the responsible gambling page and the account disagree on exclusion periods and limit increases
- The Android app is installed from a download link outside Google Play, and we did not test the app or the site on a phone

Is FirstBet Licensed in South Africa?
7.5 / 10FirstBet is operated by Banzostar (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2016/131538/07, trading as FirstBet. The site footer names a Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB) licence, 10185107, first issued on 30 June 2017, and an Eastern Cape Gambling Board (ECGB) licence, ECBM 058, first issued on 27 March 2026. The About page says the business started in Cape Town in 2016 with a single branch in Diep River.
We searched the National Gambling Board (NGB) Verified Operators portal, whose list was last updated on 4 September 2026. It has one entry, Banzostar (Pty) Ltd t/a Firstbet, as a Bookmaker at 11a Shallcross Road, Constantia, under licence number 10185107-014. The company and the licence base number match the footer. Two details do not: the portal lists the province as Eastern Cape, while the footer ties 10185107 to the Western Cape board, and ECBM 058 does not appear on the list at all. The portal address in Constantia also differs from the Gqeberha administration office on the contact page. The list may lag behind a licence issued in March 2026, but we cannot confirm that.
We put the question to FirstBet’s live chat, asking whether both licences are active and which one covers the casino games, and quoted the NGB entry. The agent did not answer. The reply said licensing is handled by the compliance team and offered to escalate the enquiry and give feedback once received. We had no answer at the time of writing and will update this review if one arrives.
Clause 21 of the terms lists the sportsbook, horse racing, Lucky Numbers, Spin & Win and Winner’s Wheel under the Western Cape licence, and that is the licence the National Gambling Board portal confirms, so the sportsbook sits on the firmest part of FirstBet’s licensing. The Eastern Cape licence listed in the footer is used for a group of casino providers and for Pragmatic Play from 8 June 2026, which we cover in our casino review.
FirstBet receives 7.5/10 for Licensing & Legal Transparency. The legal entity, registration number and both regulators are disclosed, a licence is shown from 2017, the company is confirmed on the NGB portal, and the terms say which licence covers which product. It stays at 7.5 because the portal’s province and missing ECBM 058 entry do not match the footer, chat did not confirm the licences, and no certificate is published. Sportsbook and casino share one operator, so this score matches our casino review.
Is FirstBet Trustworthy? Reputation and Customer Feedback
6.0 / 10FirstBet’s About page says the company was established in Cape Town in 2016, grew from one branch in Diep River to 14 or more licensed branches, employs more than 100 people and is 100% South African owned. The branch page we read lists two branches in Gauteng and ten in the Western Cape. The licence date in the footer is June 2017. These are the operator’s own claims, and a retail footprint of this kind is a point in its favour that we could not verify independently.
Online, the evidence is thin. FirstBet’s Hellopeter page shows 3 reviews in total, only 2 of them in the last 12 months, and no TrustIndex, because Hellopeter needs 10 reviews in 12 months to calculate one (the TrustIndex is out of 10). The profile is unverified and has no company replies. The reviews split evenly. The 1 star review, from 5 June 2026, complains about customer service that felt like a bot, a large number of terms, repeated document requests, rejected withdrawal requests and having to ask again, with a wait of 48 hours, to receive a first deposit bonus. The 5 star review, from 19 May 2026, praises verification overnight, smooth games and a cash out that worked.
We found no Trustpilot profile for the South African site. A search returned other businesses called FirstBet, including a French one, which have nothing to do with firstbet.co.za. With only two recent reviews, neither side of the Hellopeter picture can be treated as typical.
FirstBet receives 6.0/10 for Brand Trust & Reputation. A history since 2016, a licence since 2017, physical branches and consistent business details are positives. Very little independent feedback, no TrustIndex, no company replies and a recent complaint that matches several of the terms we read keep it at Fair. We will score it again as reviews build up, so check the current profiles. This score matches our casino review.
Is FirstBet Safe? Security and Account Protection
6.5 / 10FirstBet ties payments to the player’s identity. The terms say withdrawals go only to a South African bank account in the customer’s name, and ask for a copy of any credit card used to deposit. Verification follows FICA rules. The verification screen of our test account listed an ID document and proof of address, and we have not completed it, so we cannot say how long it takes.
When we asked live chat what documents it accepts, the agent listed a valid South African ID or passport, and for proof of address a bank statement, utility bill, municipal account, lease agreement or official government correspondence, issued within the last 3 months and showing full name and address. That is a clear and standard list.
We asked whether FirstBet offers two factor authentication, such as an SMS code. The agent answered ‘Yes’, with no detail on how it works or how to switch it on. We did not see the setting in the account screens we checked, and we found no session history, login alert list or account recovery description. We did not test lockout or recovery.
FirstBet receives 6.5/10 for Safety & Security. Named bank accounts, mandatory verification with a clear document list, a card copy requirement and a chat confirmation of two factor authentication are positives. We did not see the two factor setting, a session history or any recovery process, so the score stays at Fair. Sportsbook and casino share one account, so this score matches our casino review.
Which Deposit Methods Does FirstBet Accept?
7.5 / 10The cashier in our account shows 16 tiles: EFT, Capitec Pay and Visa/Mastercard through Walletdoc, Ozow, crypto (four coins), 1Voucher, OTT Voucher, EasyVoucher, cash at a BettingShop, 4All Voucher, Blu Voucher, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Visa/Mastercard through DPO, SID Secure EFT through DPO and FNB Voucher. Filters let a player view all methods or only card, EFT, voucher, cash, crypto or other options. The cash route suits players without a bank card.
The terms set minimum deposits of R5 for vouchers and R10 for instant EFT, Capitec Pay, cards and mobile wallets. The welcome offer needs a deposit of at least R50. We did not see maximums per method, and we did not check which crypto coins or rules apply.
Two rules matter. A deposit that has not been wagered can suspend a withdrawal, which we cover in the withdrawals section, and the terms require a copy of a credit card used to deposit. We made no deposit, so we cannot report how fast funds arrived or whether any fee applied.
FirstBet receives 7.5/10 for Deposits & Payment Methods. A very wide set of methods, low published minimums, a cash route through branches and several vouchers are strong positives. The score sits at our 7.5 ceiling for untested payments. Sportsbook and casino share one cashier, so this score matches our casino review.
How Fast Are FirstBet Withdrawals?
7.0 / 10According to the terms, a withdrawal goes to a South African bank account in the customer’s name and is processed within 24 hours of the funds being confirmed as available, on the same day or the next business day. In live chat, an agent told us that most withdrawals are processed within 30 minutes, and that first withdrawals and requests made after hours can take longer because of extra verification. For the limits per method, the agent gave only a link to the withdrawal page.
Published minimums differ by method: R10 for 1Voucher, R50 for Walletdoc and Ozow EFT and R250 for the bank instant money options listed on the landing page. The terms cap withdrawals at R1,000,000 per 30 business days. Payout limits per day are also published: R500,000 for sports, Lucky Numbers and horse racing (with lower caps for single bets and for doubles, trebles and quads), up to R10,000,000 for Evolution and Ezugi live games, and up to R2,000,000 for the 25 slot providers named in the terms.
The conditions deserve attention. A deposit that has not been wagered may cause a withdrawal to be suspended. A Hellopeter reviewer from June 2026 says a withdrawal request was rejected, while a May 2026 reviewer says a cash out went smoothly. We cannot verify either account.
FirstBet receives 7.0/10 for Withdrawals & Payout Reliability. Same or next business day processing, a chat claim of about 30 minutes, high published limits and a clear name match rule are positives. The R250 minimum on some methods, the unwagered deposit rule, mixed feedback and the lack of a tested payout keep it at Good. Withdrawals are a critical safeguard, and this score is above the level at which a cap would apply. Sportsbook and casino share one wallet, so this score matches our casino review.
Are the FirstBet Sports Betting Promotions Fair?
7.0 / 10The sports welcome offer is a 100% match on a first deposit of at least R50, up to R10,000, paid as a single bonus bet. The player must first wager the deposit 5 times at odds of 1.9 or higher, with legs of 1.5 or higher in multiples. The terms lower this to 3x once the deposit has been used up. The offer is for new customers only. A casino option, 100 bonus spins, is also available, and we cover it in our casino review.
The bonus bet itself is wagered once, and only the profit is paid out, so the stake is not returned. Winnings are capped at the lower of 5 times the bonus and R30,000, and price boosts do not count. The player has 30 days to meet the wagering and 3 days to use the bonus bet once it arrives. The order of steps is the catch: after the deposit is wagered, the player has to ask support by email or live chat to claim the offer, which is allocated within 48 hours. A 1 star Hellopeter reviewer mentions this second request. The terms let FirstBet amend, cancel, reclaim or refuse any bonus.
Cashback on Mondays and Fridays returns 10% of net loss as bonus bets. The Friday payment covers bets settled Monday to Thursday and the Monday payment covers Friday to Sunday, paid at about 11:00. The amount is between R5 and R5,000, the bonus bets are wagered once at odds of 1.5 or higher, winnings are capped at R20,000 and the bets last 3 days. Players who are R20,000 or more in profit over the previous 30 days are not eligible, the cashback cannot be combined with other promotions, and FirstBet may end it at the end of any Thursday or Sunday without notice.
The Multi Bet Bonus applies to prematch multiples placed with Cash Wallet funds, with legs of 1.2 or higher: 2% on 2 legs, 20% on 20 legs, 40% on 30 legs, 90% on 40 legs and 150% on 50 legs, and its terms list no wagering requirement. The payout limits still apply to the total winnings. The One Leg Out bonus returns up to 10 times the stake on multiples of 7 or more legs where exactly one leg loses, with legs of 1.3 or higher, and daily price boosts and 1UP, 2UP and 3UP early payout markets add more. A Loser on Objection promotion on horse racing returns the stake as a bonus bet. We did not read the terms of every promotion.
FirstBet receives 7.0/10 for Bonus Fairness & Wagering Terms. A Multi Bet Bonus with no wagering requirement listed, cashback with 1x wagering and a bonus that lasts 30 days are positives. The 5x deposit wagering at 1.9 or higher on the welcome offer, the profit only bonus bet, the manual claim through support, the wide discretion to cancel or refuse bonuses and the profit threshold on cashback keep it at Good. We did not claim or test any bonus.
What Sports and Markets Does FirstBet Offer?
7.5 / 10When we browsed the public sportsbook, the sports menu showed 1,308 soccer events, 155 basketball, 144 ice hockey, 77 cricket, 77 MMA, 69 tennis, 65 American football, 44 boxing, 25 golf, 11 rugby, 10 darts, 6 baseball and 2 Formula 1, with more sports behind an arrow, so event counts will change. The tabs are Sports, In Play, Top Leagues, Price Boost and Outrights, and the left menu lists leagues such as the Premier League, Champions League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 with event counts.
A soccer match row opens with 3 Way, Double Chance and Both Teams To Score columns that the player can switch between. The bet slip has a box for a book a bet code and a My Bets tab. Odds are decimal, and there is a switch for other odds formats. Price Boost shows boosted multiples, called Sure Sub bets, with boosts such as 16% and 12% on the day we looked. Early cash out is mentioned in the bonus terms, but we did not see a cash out button because we placed no bet.
Beyond sports, FirstBet runs horse racing, Lucky Numbers, Spin & Win and Winner’s Wheel under the same licence, and the terms publish daily payout limits for each: R500,000 a day for sports, Lucky Numbers and horse racing, with lower caps for single bets, doubles, trebles and quads.
We did not place a bet, so we cannot comment on odds margins, market depth beyond the match row, live betting speed, cash out or settlement.
FirstBet receives 7.5/10 for Product Quality. A broad list of sports, a large soccer offer, price boosts, early payout markets, horse racing and published payout limits put it at the top of Good. It is held at our evidence ceiling because we did not bet and did not compare odds.
Can You Bet on FirstBet on Mobile?
6.0 / 10The app page lists three routes. The iOS app, called FirstBet SA, is on the App Store and needs iOS 14 or later. The Android app is an APK that FirstBet distributes directly from its own download domain, because, in the site’s words, it avoids Google Play’s South African gambling restrictions. Players have to allow installs from unknown sources, and the page says the APK is verified and signed by FirstBet. Huawei phones can use a version on AppGallery. Android 8 or later is required, and the apps support push notifications and deposits.
Our footer screenshot shows an Android button with a Google Play icon, but the app page itself links to the APK, so players should use the link on the app page and not search a store. Installing an APK from outside Google Play is a security trade off that some players will not accept.
We did not install any app, and we did not test the sportsbook, live betting or bet slip on a phone, so we cannot comment on performance.
FirstBet receives 6.0/10 for Mobile Experience. Apps for iOS, Android and Huawei are positives. The sideloaded Android app, no Google Play listing and no phone testing keep it at Fair. We will revise it if we test the sportsbook on a phone.
How Good Is FirstBet Customer Support?
6.5 / 10FirstBet lists a live chat on every page, the email support@firstbet.co.za, a WhatsApp line on +27 68 323 3139 open from 8:00 to 23:00 every day, and a landline, 021 300 6856, open on weekdays from 8:00 to 17:00. The About page describes the service as ’24/7 always on’, which does not match those hours.
We opened live chat at about 21:30 on a Saturday. The chat asks for a name, email address and phone number before it starts. A human agent greeted us and answered the first message quickly. On documents, the agent gave a precise list of what is accepted. On withdrawals the agent gave a typical processing time. On two factor authentication the answer was a single word. On licensing the agent did not answer and said the compliance team would give feedback, and for the limits per method the agent sent a link instead. Replies were short and had at least one typo.
Disputes that FirstBet does not resolve can go to the WCGRB or the ECGB, whose contact details are listed on the contact page. The one Hellopeter complaint we read describes support as bot like, which is not what we found in a short test, although our sample is one conversation.
FirstBet receives 6.5/10 for Customer Support. Several channels, a quick human reply and a useful document list are positives. A missing answer on licensing, thin answers elsewhere, conflicting hours and one test conversation keep it at Fair. Sportsbook and casino share one support team, so this score matches our casino review.
What Responsible Gambling Tools Does FirstBet Offer?
6.0 / 10The account offers deposit limits that can be set for 1 day, 7 days, 30 days or a calendar month. Raising a limit needs a waiting period, which the account screen gives as 24 hours and the terms give as 7 days. We did not test which is right.
Temporary deactivation can be set in the account for 7, 30, 90 or 180 days, or for 1 month. The responsible gambling page also describes self exclusion, with players able to withdraw funds during an exclusion by contacting support. The page gives the exclusion period as 1 month to 1 year, while the terms say 6 months to 1 year. We did not start an exclusion.
We did not see loss limits, session limits or a reality check, and nothing in the account screens showed a net loss or time played display. The responsible gambling page includes self evaluation questions and the national helpline, 0800 006 008, and a WhatsApp number for the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation, which is printed as 076 675 0711 on that page and 076 675 0710 in the footer.
FirstBet receives 6.0/10 for Responsible Gambling Tools. Deposit limits across four periods, self service deactivation, self exclusion, a self assessment and helpline details are positives. The missing loss limit, session limit and reality check, and the conflicting figures between the terms, the page and the account, keep it in Fair. Responsible gambling is a critical safeguard, and this score is above the level at which a cap would apply. Sportsbook and casino share one account and one set of tools, so this score matches our casino review.
