MTN8 Final 2026: Result and Goals

Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 Orlando Pirates

Saturday, 10 October 2026, Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban

Sundowns scorers: Teboho Mokoena (11′), Iqraam Rayners (late penalty).

How the Final Played Out

Pirates started brightly and reached the edge of the Sundowns box early, but it was Sundowns who struck first. A loose ball in the Pirates area fell to Mokoena, who finished from close range in the 11th minute. Sipho Chaine then made several saves in the first half to keep Pirates in the contest.

The turning point came just after the hour mark. Pirates were awarded a penalty for a foul on Yanela Mbuthuma, but Ronwen Williams saved Gamphani Lungu’s effort and Sundowns kept their one goal lead. The referee’s decision to point to the spot was called harsh in one match report, which only added to the drama.

Sundowns put the game beyond doubt late on, when they were awarded a penalty of their own and Rayners converted it for 2-0.

What the Win Means

The result brings Sundowns their first MTN8 title since 2021. For Pirates, it ends a spell as cup holders that stretched across four seasons and denies them a fifth consecutive title, which would have been a first in the competition’s history according to Africa Soccer.

The win also comes with league business close behind. Sundowns lead the Betway Premiership log on 20 points from 8 matches, with Orlando Pirates second on 19 points and a game in hand.

What Is Next for Both Clubs

There is little time to celebrate or regroup. Both sides play again on Tuesday 13 October at 19:30. Sundowns travel to winless Richards Bay at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban, while Pirates host TS Galaxy at Orlando Amstel Arena in Soweto.
