What We Got Right

Our quarter-final call held up: we predicted France to beat Morocco, and France won 2-0, ending Morocco’s bid to become the first African World Cup winner at exactly the stage we flagged as the key tactical battle. We also correctly identified Argentina as a genuine finalist, backing them to come through the other side of the bracket — which they did, beating England in the semi-final.

What We Got Wrong

Our main pick, France, didn’t reach the final at all — they lost 0-2 to Spain in the semi-final. That’s the headline miss: our prediction was built around France’s tournament experience, squad depth and Mbappé’s ability to decide tight matches, but it underrated just how dominant Spain’s own campaign would be. Spain conceded a single goal across the entire tournament, a defensive record our pre-tournament analysis didn’t fully weigh against France’s more spectacular attacking case.

Our predicted final — France vs Argentina — never happened.
