Matchday 6 ran from 11 to 17 September, so this wrap comes after Matchday 7, and it points to the latest results at the end. Below is every result and goalscorer from Matchday 6.
PSL Results Matchday 6: Every Scoreline and Goalscorer
Friday, 11 September
Stellenbosch 1-1 Sekhukhune
Bethuel Muzeu put Sekhukhune ahead just after the hour, finishing from close range after a Lehlogonolo Mojela effort took a deflection. Bradley Grobler, 38, levelled late on with his first goal for Stellenbosch, and it came against his former club.
Saturday, 12 September
AmaZulu 1-0 Marumo Gallants
In-form Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya headed in a Nkosikhona Radebe cross in the first half, and that was enough to lift AmaZulu level on 13 points with Orlando Pirates at that stage. Gallants are still without a win after six matches.
Polokwane 1-1 Kaizer Chiefs
Lebohang Maboe put Chiefs ahead in the first half, but Polokwane levelled in the 73rd minute when a corner from substitute Giovanni Philander slipped past Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen. Chiefs’ own match report records it as a Petersen own goal, although some outlets credit Philander. Chiefs are unbeaten after six matches but have now drawn three of them.
Chippa United 1-1 Mamelodi Sundowns
Sirgio Kammies put Chippa ahead in the 78th minute and they looked set for a first ever league win over Sundowns. Substitute Antonio van Wyk denied them with virtually the last kick of the game, deep in stoppage time. Chippa are still winless after six matches, while Sundowns stay unbeaten.
Sunday, 13 September
Milford 5-1 Richards Bay
Richards Bay’s Lindokuhle Zikhali was sent off for pulling back Siphosethu Ndlabi in the box, and Ndlabi scored the penalty in the 28th minute. Mvelo Zikakayo scored twice, just before half time and again in the 54th minute. Mehluleli Ndelu pulled one back for Richards Bay in the 77th, before substitutes Phakamani Jwara (84′) and Jabulile Gxakoshe, in injury time, completed the biggest win of the round. Milford moved up to fifth on 11 points.
Siwelele 1-1 Golden Arrows
Philani Khumalo volleyed Arrows in front four minutes after the break from a Ronaldo Van Neel cross, and Christian Saile levelled with an acrobatic volley after the hour. Siwelele thought they had won it in the 67th minute when Thabiso Sesane scored after Arrows goalkeeper Thakusani Mbanjwa dropped the ball, but the goal was ruled out for a foul in the build-up. Siwelele are still without a win after seven matches.
TS Galaxy 0-1 Kruger United
Galaxy were reduced to 10 men in the 50th minute when Veluyeke Zulu was sent off for a foul on Mlungisi Zwane. Kruger made the extra man count, and substitute Khetukuthula Ndlovu scored the only goal in the 73rd minute from a Zwane cross to give the newly promoted side their first Premiership win.
Thursday, 17 September
Orlando Pirates 2-0 Durban City
Sipho Chaine kept out an early one-on-one from Tylo Sanger, and Pirates went ahead shortly before the hour when Lebone Seema headed in from a corner. Tshepang Moremi doubled the lead about 11 minutes later, finishing from the edge of the box after work from Simphiwe Masilela. Pirates are unbeaten after six matches.
How We Did Last Matchday
In our Matchday 6 preview we leaned toward a winner in six of the eight games, and three of those came off: AmaZulu against Marumo Gallants, Milford against Richards Bay and Orlando Pirates against Durban City. We missed on three. We leaned Mamelodi Sundowns against Chippa United, which finished 1-1, Golden Arrows away at Siwelele, which also finished 1-1, and TS Galaxy at home against Kruger United, which Kruger won 1-0. We called Stellenbosch vs Sekhukhune too close to call and warned that Polokwane would be a stubborn home side for Kaizer Chiefs, and both finished 1-1.
Standings After Matchday 6
At the end of the round Mamelodi Sundowns led on 20 points from 8 matches, unbeaten, with Orlando Pirates four points behind on 16 and two games in hand. AmaZulu were third on 13, Kaizer Chiefs fourth on 12 and still unbeaten, and Milford fifth on 11. Marumo Gallants were bottom on 2 points without a win, and Kruger United’s first win moved them up to 13th on 4 points.
