Match of the Round: Golden Arrows vs Mamelodi Sundowns
This is the standout fixture of the round, and it comes loaded with context. Golden Arrows stunned Sundowns 1-0 in the MTN8 semi-final first leg on 23 August, a result that knocked the reigning African champions out of cup contention and handed Arrows one of the biggest results of their season. Nine days later, the same two sides meet again, this time in the league, with Sundowns fresh off a 5-2 demolition of AmaZulu and looking every bit like a side determined to put that cup exit behind them. Arrows, meanwhile, picked up their first league win of the season in between, beating Stellenbosch 1-0 through Junior Dion. Our lean: Sundowns to win this one and settle the score.
Our Read: Every Matchday 5 Fixture
Durban City vs Stellenbosch
Durban City finally broke their duck last time out, beating Kruger United 2-0 to record their first win of the season, following an earlier 1-1 draw with Richards Bay. Stellenbosch arrive off the back of a surprise 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows, their first defeat in three matches. Both sides have shown they can score goals this season, and this looks like a genuine coin flip. Our lean: a draw.
Kruger United vs Orlando Pirates
Kruger United, the league’s newly promoted side, remain winless and rooted near the bottom of the table after a 0-2 defeat to Durban City. Pirates, by contrast, are unbeaten and sit top of the table after four straight wins, including back-to-back victories over Sekhukhune United in the space of a week. On paper this is about as one-sided as fixtures get this round. Our lean: a comfortable Pirates win.
Marumo Gallants vs Polokwane City
Gallants remain winless through four rounds, their five-goal loss at TS Galaxy last time out extending a rough run that has yielded just a single point all season. Polokwane City are hardly flying either, having managed only a goalless draw with Milford in their last outing, but they at least have a win on the board this season. Our lean: a narrow Polokwane City win.
Richards Bay vs AmaZulu
Richards Bay remain winless but have shown genuine resilience, drawing their last two matches, including a 2-2 comeback against Kaizer Chiefs. AmaZulu will want a response after conceding five at Sundowns, a result that ended their unbeaten start to the season. Our lean: AmaZulu to bounce back with a win.
Chippa United vs Milford
Chippa remain winless after four rounds, their 1-1 draw with Siwelele doing little to ease the pressure. Milford, in contrast, are unbeaten in their last two, following back-to-back wins with a goalless draw against Polokwane City. Our lean: Milford to edge it.
Sekhukhune United vs TS Galaxy
Sekhukhune have now lost back-to-back matches against Orlando Pirates, in the MTN8 and then in the league, after a promising 2-win start to the season. TS Galaxy arrive full of confidence after coming from behind twice to beat Marumo Gallants 3-2, with Victor Letsoalo now the league’s leading scorer. Our lean: a draw, with Sekhukhune’s tougher week weighing on them.
Golden Arrows vs Mamelodi Sundowns
See Match of the Round above.
Kaizer Chiefs vs Siwelele
Chiefs remain unbeaten but have now dropped points in back-to-back matches, drawing with both Mamelodi Sundowns and Richards Bay. Siwelele have taken just a single point from their last two matches and remain in the bottom half of the table. Our lean: Chiefs to get back to winning ways.
